Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a frequent and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of additional damage or more AD or even more attaches.
Rare-grade equipment is often superior to the more modernized Common or Magic equipment due to their high demands.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of the item they're attached to. Armor upgrades are found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using a specialist or higher salvage kits to recover upgrade components from other items.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. The ability to absorb damage of an item of armor will increase when it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. But, it's important to note that this will also increase its weight, which will cause it to weigh more than it was before.
There are several different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. For example, some upgrades give the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others will make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade the item can be given, as illustrated below.
Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms also have enhancements that enhance their intrinsic capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity to cause more damage) are two examples.
Most weapon upgrades require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests, killing a certain number of bosses or monsters, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.
To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece, or Whetblade, you must visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain number of Bars. The Jeweler can craft all kinds of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones which require certain levels to gain. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped with another identical jewel without destroying it. You are able to replace the jewel once within an item of equipment.
Utilizing more jewels in the movement will make it more smooth, and is often performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels also create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, so repeated friction with pivots doesn't damage them as easily.

The first trinket a player unlocks will be the cloak, which gives a small, but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar manner to the way a player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be placed in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and only works with certain types of trinkets.
These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't fighting. This allows a hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also make up for the absence of good slot in the talent tree or team that are normally filled by the hero's optimal stats.
A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats that you wish to upgrade, as it's usually better to upgrade just one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.
In the beginning of the game players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their trinket into a red one, while top and mid players will usually opt for the pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices can impact a hero's ability to control the map.
In addition to the items listed above, players can also find other trinkets in the form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, for instance the main quest of a chapter or killing a certain boss.
